Lead Piping Designer - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

timesheet-based serviceBid + Execution

Scope of work

Key Responsibilities: 1. Piping Design Coordination: Lead and coordinate the piping design activities throughout the project lifecycle, working closely with the project manager, engineers, and other stakeholders. Ensure that design deliverables are completed within the specified timelines and meet quality standards. 2. Design Development: Develop conceptual and detailed piping designs based on project specifications, engineering drawings, P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), and other relevant documents. Consider factors such as system requirements, operational efficiency, safety, and maintainability. 3. Layout Planning: Prepare and review piping layout plans, isometrics, and orthographic drawings, ensuring the proper arrangement of piping components, equipment, supports, and other relevant elements. Optimize the layout for ease of construction, maintenance, and future expansions. 4. Material and Component Selection: Collaborate with materials engineers and procurement specialists to select appropriate piping materials, fittings, valves, and other components based on project requirements, fluid characteristics, temperature, pressure, and corrosion considerations. 5. Code and Standards Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant industry codes and standards, such as ASME B31.1, B31.3, B31.4, B31.8, and API 650, as well as local regulatory requirements and project-specific specifications. Stay updated with the latest code revisions and design practices. 6. Technical Support: Provide technical guidance and support to the design team, including piping designers and drafters, in resolving design issues, clarifying design intent, and addressing constructability challenges. Collaborate with other disciplines, such as structural and mechanical engineers, to ensure coordination and integration of piping systems. 7. Quality Assurance: Implement quality control processes to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to design standards. Review and approve design documents, including drawings, specifications, and material requisitions, to ensure compliance with design requirements. 8. Vendor Coordination: Collaborate with vendors, suppliers, and fabricators to review shop drawings, resolve design-related issues, and ensure compliance with project specifications. Provide technical support during the procurement and fabrication processes. 9. Documentation and Reporting: Prepare and maintain accurate design documentation, including piping specifications, equipment data sheets, and design calculation packages. Generate progress reports, design change orders, and other project-related documentation as required. 10. Team Management: Provide leadership and mentorship to the piping design team. Assign tasks, monitor progress, and provide guidance to ensure efficient and effective design execution. Foster a collaborative and positive work environment. 1. Extensive experience (typically 8+ years) in piping design, including significant experience in a lead or senior design role. 2. Proficiency in using design software tools such as AutoCAD, Plant 3D, PDMS, or similar. 3. Strong knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards, including ASME, API, and ANSI. 4. Familiarity with piping materials, fabrication processes, and welding techniques. 5. Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and equipment specifications. 6. Excellent understanding of piping system layout, routing, and support requirements. 7. Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. 8. Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, clients, and vendors.
