Senior Piping Engineer
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - Senior (5-10 years) - Office based
Job Summary:
Work within the Kuala Lumpur design team to deliver detailed design drawings for process piping, piping isometrics, and BoMs related to process packages in Separation, Filtration, Solids Management, and Produced Water Treatment for oil & gas projects.
As a senior engineer, you will be responsible for reviewing and signing off peers’ and subordinates’ work, and occasionally designing installation interconnecting pipework.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review project specifications and liaise with engineering team members to confirm requirements.
- Develop compliant piping specifications within 3D model hierarchy.
- Review piping isometrics, BoMs (pipe schedules, materials, flanges, gaskets, bolting), and piping material catalogues in E3D.
- Support layout team on 3D modelling design.
- Participate in design reviews with clients and peers; contribute actively in IDC with other engineering disciplines.
- Take ownership as package responsible engineer for manual valves and piping special items (data sheets, RFQ, TC, TBE).
- Ensure all work complies with specifications, quality standards, and company HSE policies.
- Manage workload effectively to meet contract deadlines and submission dates.
- Provide input to tender/bid documentation, including scope, pricing, and planning.
- Oversee, check, and approve work of peers and subordinates.
Accountabilities:
- Ensure effectiveness of the Quality Management System.
- Conduct risk and opportunity analysis, and evaluate mitigation plans.
- Promote customer requirements, risk-based thinking, and process-oriented approaches.
- Maintain compliance with internal and external requirements.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
Experience:
- Minimum 10 years in piping material engineering.
- Familiarity with Brazilian NR requirements (advantage).
- Exposure to Norsok material requirements.
- Experience managing DEC (Design Engineering Company) deliverables and ensuring alignment with project schedules.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong knowledge of piping materials (ASTM, ASME, PED, Norsok).
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

Scope of Work
- The selected engineer will join a multidisciplinary engineering team handling HVAC system modifications and new designs across oil & gas infrastructure. Responsibilities include:
- Designing and modifying HVAC systems for offshore and onshore facilities (MCC/Control Rooms, Telecom, Electrical Rooms)
- Performing HVAC load calculations and equipment sizing using standard methods (ASHRAE)
- Generating and reviewing HVAC deliverables: layout drawings, ducting routing, HVAC D&ID, BOQ, equipment specs
- Participating in technical clarifications, design reviews, and client meetings
- Ensuring compliance with PETRONAS Technical Standards (PTS), ASHRAE, and other project-specific codes
- Coordinating across disciplines (electrical, mechanical, civil/structural, instrumentation)
- Providing office-based support to construction/commissioning teams when needed
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Minimum 5–10 years HVAC experience in oil & gas projects (FPSO, CPP, WHP, petrochemical, or gas terminals)
- Strong familiarity with offshore HVAC systems (positive pressure systems, redundancy, explosion-proof zones)
- Proficient in AutoCAD, HAP, and HVAC system simulation software
- Hands-on experience with generating HVAC documents: equipment datasheets, D&IDs, duct/piping layout, MTO, technical specs
- Prior exposure to brownfield modifications, space-constrained HVAC routing, and system upgrades
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with PETRONAS PTS, Shell DEP, or equivalent oil & gas standards
- Experience supporting HVAC vendor selection and technical bid evaluations
- Exposure to construction/commissioning interface or site query resolution
