Job Summary

Our client are seeking an experienced Procurement Coordinator (Buyer) for a petrochemical project with an EPC client in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This role involves sourcing vendors, managing procurement activities, and ensuring timely delivery of materials. The position is a 1-year contract with a focus on coordinating with various departments and negotiating with vendors.


Job Responsibilities

  • Source suitable vendors and maintain good relationships with Vendor PICs.
  • Coordinate requisition requirements with other departments.
  • Nominate and finalize vendor selections for RFQs and monitor quotation submissions.
  • Communicate with vendors for quotation submissions.
  • Distribute quotation copies to Project and Engineering Departments; report submission status to the Procurement Manager.
  • Assist Procurement Manager in finalizing vendor selection upon receipt of quotation tabulations and evaluations.
  • Negotiate with vendors for better rates/deals.
  • Prepare and issue Purchase Orders to selected vendors.
  • Liaise with the Transportation Department on tax exemption, local sales tax, and logistics matters before placing orders.
  • Assist and expedite the delivery of purchased goods.
  • Liaise with QA/QC Department on quality issues for purchased items.
  • Coordinate with Project, Construction, and Account Departments for vendor invoicing dossiers and prepare Requests for Payment (RFP).
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Department Manager.


Job Requirements

  • Degree in any engineering discipline or business administration.
  • Experience in handling procurement matters locally and internationally.
  • 8-10 years of working experience in procurement, preferably in the oil & gas/petrochemical industries.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work in a team and possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing skills.
  • Proactive, resourceful, and able to work under pressure with tight deadlines.
  • Good command of English and Bahasa Malaysia (spoken and written).
  • Proficiency in Japanese or Mandarin is preferred.
