Lead Drilling Engineer

Major Duties & Responsibilities

•           Co-ordinate the overall efforts of advanced drilling engineering expertise for the preparation of operating procedure for successful drilling operation.

•           Initiate and manage advanced drilling engineering expertise for the preparation of BoWD (Basis of Well Design) for planned wells, in line with local Malaysia governing standards and Client standards & manuals.

•           Initiate and manage scope of work for tender processes associated with drilling equipment / service, in accordance with PETRONAS Procurement Standards and the governing standards in Malaysia. Evaluate the tender submission and part of the technical team and user.

•           Manage executed equipment and services contracts as the primary user.

•           Prepare detailed WP&B estimates and AFE estimates.

•           Collaborate and manage the relationship between drilling and subsurface to ensure efficient well delivery as per the Client well delivery process.

•           Manage advanced drilling engineering expertise for carrying out data analyses to enhance learning effect in future operations.

•           Monitor real time drilling performance and initiate the processes for MOC whenever necessary, coordinating with relevant stakeholders (internal and external).

•           Identify and contribute to risk and hazards identification via risk assessments, technical peer reviews, technical workshops, and technical audits.

•           Coordinate the requirements for rig operations logistics with close coordination between drilling superintendent, operations team, and logistics team for safe and efficient day to day operations.

•           Ensure compliance with PETRONAS and Client standards, including HSE and well integrity requirements.

Qualification & Experience   

Must have:

•           A technical degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical discipline.

•           A minimum of 15 years’ experience in drilling engineering with full life cycle (well design to rig execution) experience and exposure to drilling rig operations.

•           A minimum of 2 exploration deepwater (>500m) life-cycle experience as the project engineer.

•           Familiar with PETRONAS, Governing Standards and Malaysia regulatory requirements for a PSC.

•           At least 2 years of contracting and tendering management within a PSC setup.

•           Fluent in English language both Writing & Spoken.

Preferred to have:

•           Experienced with various well designs in the deepwater, HPHT, MPD and ERD projects.

•           Experienced in a multi-cultural and multi-national team setting.

•           Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

•           Experienced in exploration well DST planning.

•           Possess the competency of industry-recognized drilling engineering software for well trajectory, advanced casing and tubing design, hydraulics, torque & drag simulation (e.g. Landmark, Oliasoft) and operations reporting software.

•           BOSIET and IWCF Well Control Certificate Course (Subsea Supervisor level).

•           Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point).
