Scope of Work

Job Title: Naval Architect

Location: Lagos, Nigeria (with periodic travel)

Duration: Long-term mission (48 months)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define technical and operational specifications and performance criteria for electric ferries.
  • Prepare Detailed Engineering Design (DED) documentation for the vessels.
  • Develop protocols for sea trials, vessel handover, maintenance, and related procedures.
  • Provide support in the selection of shipyards for vessel construction.
  • Take full responsibility for construction supervision of the electric ferries.
  • Support the selection of a Classification Society and monitor the certification process.
  • Inspect and approve e-ferry components and equipment, including verifying partial and final construction milestones.
  • Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) for key components (e.g., engine, radar).
  • Participate in the handover process of the ferries and oversee handover protocols.
  • Ensure delivery of ferries is on time, within budget, and meets quality expectations.

Qualifications & Experience Required:

  • Education:
  • Master’s degree (MSc) in Naval Architecture from an internationally recognized university.
  • Professional Experience:
  • Minimum 20 years of experience in vessel design and construction supervision.
  • Proven expertise in ferry design, ideally including electric ferries (e-ferries).
  • Familiarity with working alongside or under the requirements of Classification Societies.
  • Experience in developing country environments, especially with internationally funded (IFI) projects, is preferred.
  • Must be fluent in both oral and written English.
