Lead Process Engineer

🌍 Lead Process Engineer – Onsite in Kuala Lumpur (12-Months Freelance)

We are seeking a Lead Process Engineer for an exciting 12-month freelance assignment with a leading international EPC player in the energy sector. The role is based onsite at the client’s Kuala Lumpur office (Menara Felda).


Job Descriptions:

  • Overall supervision of Process work on a project. 
  • Technical direction, advice and control of Process work. Liaison with client discipline to establish technical direction where not provided by codes and standards. 
  • Scope definition, estimation and progress control of Process engineering activities. 
  • Planning of man hour budgets, schedules, manpower loadings and staffing requirements, by skill and experience, to satisfy project requirements and direction given by the Engineering Manager.
  • Co-ordination of Process engineering design and drafting
  • Complete complex process design activities including simulation
  • Liaison with other discipline Lead engineers on technical issues and engineering matters.
  • Assisting asset/client Lead Project Engineers in the definition of the Process engineering work in any project, design approach and criteria, procedures for engineering work and timely production of deliverables
  • Co-ordination and preparation of input to Essential Process Documents, as defined by the client/ contract.
  • Responsible to ensure all design works conforms to the codes and standards or to agreed industry standards. 
  • Responsible for working within the provisions and guidelines of the Quality Assurance system.
  • Design experience of offshore oil and gas processing facilities (i.e. water treating, oil treating, gas treating, corrosive fluids treating, etc.) is essential.
  • Attend all relevant safety workshops such as HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, etc.
  • Checking and approval of design by others of facilities described.
  • Take responsibility on specific projects for process design of mechanical equipment including pumps, separation vessels, heat exchangers, compressors contactors, distillation columns.
  • Lead technical review of process and P&I drawings, equipment layout and specifications, control strategy, safety environmental requirements, and HAZOPS.
  • Contribute to development of new technical applications, calculation methods, and reference library information into company resources.
  • Guide and assist Process Engineers to produce project deliverables suitable for downstream disciplines, clients and project management.
  • Report to the Head of Process Engineering Department, plus Project Manager(s) as assigned.

  • Candidate must have recognised B.Sc or B.E Degree in Chemical Engineering or similar education background.
  • Minimum 12 years’ experience in process design, preferably in oil and gas industry.
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Having experience in Feasibility/Concept study, FEED and Detailed Design. 
  • Should be capable of dealing with a variety of small differing process applications as well as being a specialist. 
  • Mature character required with ability to contribute effectively to the design.  
  • Should be able to work in a team environment.

General Manager - Process

 Job Responsibilities:

 

Process Engineering Work and Process Department Management

 

1. To develop, configure and optimize process facilities design from inception. This includes the development of process simulations with optimized process scheme, high accuracy; and prepare the process simulation report or technical notes.

2. Take pro-active approach in resolutions related to existing assets, by carrying all the stake holders along while providing acceptable solutions within the time frame. The stake holders could be internal BAB operations personnel, Clients, Vendors, external Engineering consultants, Sub-Contractors, Classification society and 3rd party reviewers.

3. Development of PFDs, P&IDs, PSDs, SAFE Charts, Cause and Effect Matrix, specifications, data sheets, calculations, and relevant reports, technical note and philosophy.

4. Analyse process facility design using computer simulation tools, software and spreadsheets.

5. To manage, monitor and verify detailed engineering works provided by other party (i.e., detailed engineering consultant) to make sure their drawings and documents submission meet project engineering deliverables and requirement.

6. To meet project cost optimization by providing engineering design that fit for purpose with minimum cost thus lowering CAPEX and OPEX project expenditure.

7. Prepare or review MDR and CTR (Cost Time Resource).

8. Attend engineering workshop including HAZID, Design reviews, HAZOP, SIL, etc., and contribute to the close out of workshop recommendations.

9. To assist with the refurbishment and conversion scope for contractor in FPSO conversion project to make sure all necessary process modification works, upgrading works or new installation works are covered in detail.

10. To mentor, guide and develop Process Engineers and provide career path e.g. Provide external/internal training and exposure to our business industry e.g. Offshore Commissioning, Construction Site Relocation etc.

11. Provide input into the design of process facilities, utility systems and layouts of new or upgraded vessels.

12. Coordinate and work closely with other disciplines, procurement, commercial, project and operation teams to achieve the common goal of business.

13. Provide process engineering support to operations/commissioning for first oil readiness/start-up and for current operating fleet on MOCs, TQ and any improvement work.

14. Responsible as Process TA.

 

Package Management

 

1. To review/prepare and/or provide technical proposal for commercial department to come out with comprehensive project budgetary proposal.

2. Support TBE and ensure the proposal is meeting the technical requirement by reviewing vendor's proposal and preparation of technical clarification.

3. Manage subcontractors/vendors for process design/engineering issues.

4. To work closely with procurement and commercial departments to make sure all equipment procured meet requirement of technical specification.

1. Provide process engineering support for any Company business development.

 

Quality Assurance

 

1. To comply with quality standard (ISO) that ensure engineering design deliverables produced are of high quality.

2. Promote to team member and responsible to adhere to Process Department Procedure and other relevant procedures to ensure any process work/deliverables are in good quality.

3. Encourage to team member and responsible to continuously self-improve and update process department tools according to latest rules, regulations and standard.

4. Support and participate ISO/QMS Audit activity when require.

5. Ensuring continuous improvement of processes and method to deliver good quality of process work.

 

Job Requirements:

 

● Minimum 18 years of experience in upstream oil & gas for offshore processing facilities, FPSO topsides, etc.,

● Good hands-on experience in simulations, Heat & Mass Balance, concept selection and basic design preparation of PFD, P&ID, C&E equipment sizing and specifications.

● Good decision experience for oil stabilization gas compression, dehydration dew point central, other gas treatment processes.

● Experienced as Lead/Principal Process Engineer and Process TA for FPSO (or equivalent oil and gas facility) in various phases of project till start-up.
