Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Construction Engineer to support an ongoing power plant / Combined Heat & Power (COGEN) project based at Port Klang.
The role will be site-based and involves close coordination with the EPCC Contractor, Owner’s Engineer team, and project stakeholders to ensure construction works are executed safely, compliantly, and in accordance with approved technical requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Planning & CoordinationSupport the EPCC Contractor in developing and reviewing construction schedules, resource plans, and work breakdown structures (WBS).
- Coordinate closely with the EPCC Contractor during construction and commissioning preparation phases to ensure smooth project execution.
- Act as a key interface between site, Owner’s Engineer, and engineering teams for construction-related matters.
- 2. Site Supervision & ExecutionMonitor daily construction activities to ensure compliance with approved drawings, technical specifications, and safety standards.
- Supervise EPCC contractors and subcontractors, addressing technical and operational issues promptly.
- Lead and coordinate the Owner’s Engineer site team to resolve site execution challenges effectively.
- 3. Quality Assurance & Regulatory ComplianceEnsure all construction works comply with applicable local regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
- Conduct inspections and quality checks for civil, mechanical, and electrical construction works.
- Verify construction activities are carried out in accordance with approved construction methodologies.
- 4. Safety & HSE ManagementAssist the Site Safety Supervisor (SSS) in implementing and enforcing Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements on-site.
- Participate in safety audits, toolbox talks, risk assessments, and incident investigations where required.
- Promote a strong safety culture across site teams and contractors.
- 5. Reporting & DocumentationPrepare daily site progress reports, site logs, and issue tracking reports for management review.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of construction activities, inspections, and site instructions.
- 6. Technical SupportProvide engineering solutions to site-related challenges and construction issues.
- Liaise with engineering and design teams for technical clarifications, changes, or modifications.
- Ensure construction works are implemented strictly in line with approved drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in construction engineering roles.
- At least 2 years’ experience in power plant or Combined Heat & Power (COGEN) projects.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Power plant systems
- Piping, structural works, and rotating equipment
- Familiarity with relevant construction codes and standards (e.g. ASME, API, ASTM) and local regulatory requirements.
- CIDB registration is mandatory.
- HSE-related certifications (e.g. OSHA, NEBOSH) are an added advantage.
