Purpose of Job:
The Senior Engineer will be part of the engineering team based in Paris and the wider global discipline engineering community they are associated with.
The Senior Engineer will be part of the Technical Safety & Environmental team and thus will need to demonstrate relevant expertise as per description below.
The work performed will be varied and activities include front-end conceptual studies, detailed design and operational support activities. The role will be to perform Technical Safety & Risk assessments and analysis based on regulatory requirements, client standards and drivers, and to efficiently communicate these solutions through technical reports and presentations. The Senior Engineer should be able to perform engineering discipline tasks with limited input and support from the Study Manager. Details of accountabilities & responsibilities are detailed below.
Experience with available industry modelling and analysis techniques and tools is required for this role.
Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
- Delivery of Risk and Safety consultancy advice and technical studies, in line with applicable codes, standards and regulations.
- Development of Safety philosophies, procedures, reports, calculation notes and drawings in accordance with Genesis and project quality requirements.
- Participates to Safety Workshops (e.g. HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, Bow-tie, ALARP, etc.).
- General mentoring and guidance of other less experienced safety engineers as required.
- Performs quality checks of discipline documents (reports, procedures, models, etc.).
- Participates in Genesis global knowledge sharing initiatives within their engineering discipline.
- Communicates regularly with Client/ Study Manager to ensure objectives are being met in a timely manner.
- Reviews all relevant discipline data.
- Interfaces with other engineering disciplines.
- Participates in project presentations to communicate results.
Support tenders’ development in collaboration with the Tender Manager.
Qualifications & Experience:
The job holder must have the following:
- Approximately 7+ years of experience in Technical Safety, Risk and Loss Prevention and at least 4 years’ experience in the Oil and Gas industry. Experience in Energy Transition industry (e.g. Low-carbon LNG, Green Hydrogen, SAF, CCUS…) would be a plus.
- Experience in executing Risk studies including Consequence Modelling, QRA, FERA and EERA and risk-based design
- Experience in Loss Prevention (Active and Passive Fire Protection Philosophy, Blast protection, Fire & Gas detection, Hazardous area classification and development of design drawings).
- Experience in Safety modelling tools such as PHAST and others (e.g. Pipenet, SprinKCALC).
- Experience in Conceptual and Front-End engineering studies.
- Interest in mentoring young engineers.
- Desire and ability to take on new challenges, and gain skills and experience in Risk and Safety work.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience in CFD studies and associated software (FLACS, ANSYS CFX, etc) would be a plus.
- Interest in becoming Safety reviews’ facilitator would be a plus.
Minimum education: Master’s degree (or international equivalent) in a subject relevant to the engineering discipline.
Required Competencies:
The job holder must have the following proven competencies:
- Working language for the role is English, which is essential as there is a high level of interfacing with international offices and clients.
- French language skills are preferable, but not essential.
- Good computer literacy with particular competence in MS office software.
- Experience with discipline specific simulation software such as PHAST as a minimum,
- Good report writing, communication and social skills.
- Capacity to lead small teams and projects.
- Manage variations in workload, whilst always producing high quality deliverables.
- Technical knowledge in related disciplines to judge and deal with problems
- Ability to explain discipline engineering concepts in a straightforward manner.
Organised, efficient and an effective team player
Working Conditions:
The role is based in Paris, but engineer can be asked to travel regionally for short periods. The role may involve working for short periods in client offices to start up projects and build client relations.
