Job Summary
The Senior Instrument Engineer is responsible for leading instrumentation and control engineering activities for brownfield oil and gas projects, including FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) and DED (Detailed Engineering Design). This role ensures reliable, safe, and efficient design, upgrade, and rejuvenation of instrumentation and control systems in compliance with project and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead instrumentation and control system design for brownfield oil & gas projects.
- Execute and review FEED and DED deliverables related to instrumentation.
- Manage revamp projects, including upgrades to instrumentation systems such as analyzers, control systems, field instruments, and associated infrastructure.
- Handle rejuvenation works aimed at extending the life of existing instrumentation systems due to aging or obsolescence.
- Develop and review key engineering deliverables, including:
- P&IDs (instrumentation scope review)
- Instrument Index and I/O List
- Control Philosophy and Cause & Effect Diagrams
- Instrument datasheets and specifications
- Hook-up drawings and loop diagrams
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (IEC, ISA, etc.).
- Interface with multidisciplinary teams (process, electrical, mechanical, civil).
- Coordinate with vendors for instrument selection, technical clarifications, and bid evaluations.
- Support procurement, construction, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities.
- Perform troubleshooting, system optimization, and risk assessments for instrumentation and control systems.
Project Experience Requirement
- Proven experience in Gas Processing Plant Santong (GPS) or similar facilities.
- Hands-on involvement in:
- FEED & DED for revamp works (upgrading analyzers, control systems, field instrumentation, etc.)
- FEED & DED for rejuvenation works (asset life extension due to aging/deterioration)
- Experience as Senior Discipline Engineer in at least one completed brownfield oil & gas project.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in the oil & gas industry.
- Proven experience in FEED and DED phases for brownfield projects.
Key Competencies
- Strong knowledge of instrumentation and control systems in oil & gas facilities
- Expertise in DCS/PLC systems, analyzers, and field instrumentation
- Familiarity with international standards (IEC, ISA, API where applicable)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication and stakeholder coordination
- Ability to lead discipline engineering work and mentor junior engineers
