Job Title: Nuclear Materials Inspection Specialist


Project Type: Inspection and Quality Assurance for UF6 Cylinder and PSP Shipments

Job Purpose:

To conduct thorough pre-shipment and loading inspections of UF6 cylinders and PSPs, ensuring compliance with nuclear safety standards and adherence to specified inspection criteria. The role requires expertise in handling radioactive materials and performing inspections according to detailed protocols, including radiation dose rate measurements and contamination checks.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Pre-shipment Inspection of UF6 Cylinders and PSPs:
  • Perform visual and subcriticality inspections of cylinders and PSPs (Protective Shipping Packages).
  • Conduct lifting and external surface contamination inspections.
  • Complete sealing inspections for both cylinders and PSPs.
  • Measure radiation dose rates and verify compliance with Form OPT-2005-01 Rev.1 and subsequent revisions.
  1. Post-packing Inspections:
  • Inspect after tightening fastening devices using specific inspection forms.
  • Conduct checks for external surface contamination, sealing integrity, and radiation dose rates.
  • Complete visual and sealing inspections on packed cylinders and PSPs.
  1. Record Verification and Data Inspection:
  • Verify weights and contents (UF6 data) based on Form OPT-2005-02 Rev.1.
  • Perform cylinder leak tests and record all inspection results.
  • Complete sealing and dose rate inspections, ensuring all records are in compliance with procedural requirements.
  1. Loading Inspections:
  • Oversee the marking and labeling inspection process on vehicles or containers before/after loading as per Form OPT-2005-03 Rev.1.
  • Conduct visual inspections of the PSPs on trailers, railways, and flat-rack containers.
  1. Radiation Dose Rate and Surface Contamination Inspection on Flat-rack Containers:
  • Perform radiation dose rate and surface contamination inspections on flat-rack containers as specified.
  • Ensure compliance with radiation safety limits and submit findings to Sojitz Machinery Corporation for analysis.
  1. Documentation and Reporting:
  • Accurately document inspection findings using required forms.
  • Complete and submit the filling list of measuring instruments.
  • Affix security stickers on P10 tubes and report seal numbers accordingly.

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in nuclear material handling or a related field, with a strong background in radiation safety and inspection protocols.
  • Prior experience with UF6 or similar radioactive materials is essential.
  • Knowledge of inspection criteria defined in nuclear industry documents (such as TPD-12-006-R05) and Mitsubishi Nuclear Fuel Co. standards.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Certification in radiation safety or nuclear materials inspection.
  • Familiarity with Forms OPT-2005-01 to OPT-2005-04 and relevant inspection instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to perform precise inspections.
  • Proficiency in documenting inspection findings and adherence to safety protocols.
