Role Overview
The Structural Designer will support offshore, FPSO, and marine interface projects by developing detailed structural layouts and drawings for safety-critical offshore steel structures. This role focuses on offshore constructability, integration, and accuracy, working closely with structural engineers and other disciplines within APL’s technical authority / package-owner environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed offshore structural drawings including: Primary and secondary steel, Deck structures, platforms, modules, and supports, Ladders, stairs, handrails, gratings, and access structures
- Produce and update GA drawings, fabrication drawings, and as-built drawings
- Support brownfield modifications, tie-ins, and offshore integration scopes
- Incorporate inputs from structural analysis (SACS / STAAD) into design drawings
- Coordinate closely with piping, E&I, and layout disciplines to resolve clashes
- Support MTO extraction and drawing updates in line with project changes
- Participate in design reviews and respond to engineering mark-ups
- Ensure drawings comply with offshore standards, class rules, and project specifications
Requirements
- Diploma or technical qualification in Structural / Civil / Mechanical discipline
- Strong experience as a Structural Designer in offshore oil & gas projects
- Hands-on experience with offshore steel structures (FPSO / platform / marine)
- Proficient in AVEVA E3D / PDMS / Tekla / AutoCAD (project dependent)
- Familiar with offshore constructability and fabrication practices
- Experience supporting brownfield or modification works is an advantage
- Civil/building-only structural drafting experience is not suitable
Preferred Experience
- FPSO / FSO / offshore platform projects
- Integration with marine, mooring, or offshore loading systems
- Experience working with tight offshore layouts and congested decks
- Interface with fabricators, EPCs, and third-party reviewers
