Scope of Work

The Environmental Officer will play a key role in ensuring environmental compliance and sustainability practices within the combined-cycle power plant located in Gurun, Kedah.


Job Description:

  1. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations, as well as company standards, including emissions, waste management, water treatment, and other environmental policies.
  2. Conduct regular monitoring of air, water, and soil quality; manage data collection and perform analysis to evaluate environmental performance. Prepare and submit timely environmental reports to regulatory bodies.
  3. Identify potential environmental risks and develop, implement, and monitor preventive and corrective action plans to mitigate these risks effectively.
  4. Oversee the handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste; ensure compliance with hazardous materials management guidelines.
  5. Lead investigations on environmental incidents, spills, or accidents; document findings and develop recommendations to prevent future occurrences.
  6. Conduct regular environmental training sessions for plant employees and contractors, fostering awareness of environmental policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  7. Support plant initiatives for energy efficiency, emissions reduction, and resource conservation, contributing to the plant's sustainable development goals.
  8. Serve as the point of contact for external agencies, communities, and environmental consultants; manage community relations and respond to inquiries related to environmental practices.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  2. 7-10 years of experience as an Environmental Officer or similar role within the power generation, oil and gas, or heavy industrial sectors.
  3. In-depth understanding of local and international environmental regulations, standards, and best practices.
  4. Proficient in environmental monitoring systems and reporting tools; experience in emissions calculations, air/water quality testing, and hazardous waste management.
  5. Environmental Management certifications (e.g., ISO 14001) and/or Certified Environmental Professional (CEP) is preferred.
  6. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within a cross-functional team.
