Role Overview

The Country / Area Safety Specialist will act as the local HSE expert, responsible for ensuring safety, compliance, risk management, and sustainability activities are properly implemented within the Malaysia operations.

This role will cover both office and site environments and will work closely with local teams, regional HSE, and global functions to ensure alignment with company safety standards, local laws, and the Global Management System.

The role may also have future development opportunities to support other offices such as Singapore, South Korea, and Vietnam.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the local HSE subject matter expert for Malaysia operations.
  • Ensure compliance with company Code of Conduct, internal policies, local HSE laws, and the Global Management System.
  • Implement Compliance & Sustainability activities, tasks, and responsibilities as directed by the Regional Head of HSE.
  • Serve as the liaison between the country team and regional/global HSE functions.
  • Support alignment of local safety practices with company-wide HSE goals and standards.
  • Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate workplace risks.
  • Conduct or support site inspections, office safety checks, audits, and risk assessments.
  • Ensure corrective actions from audits and inspections are completed within agreed timelines.
  • Develop, maintain, and update Emergency Response Plans and Business Continuity Plans.
  • Prepare and maintain risk assessments for relevant work processes.
  • Support incident reporting, investigation, follow-up actions, and HSE performance tracking.
  • Promote a strong safety culture across site and office teams.
  • Provide HSE guidance and support to operational, logistics, and project teams.
  • Assist with HSE reporting, documentation, compliance tracking, and internal communication.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in HSE, safety, compliance, or risk management.
  • Experience covering both site and office-based HSE scope.
  • Good knowledge of local HSE regulations, workplace safety requirements, risk assessments, and emergency response planning.
  • Experience conducting audits, inspections, corrective action follow-up, and HSE reporting.
  • Able to work with operational teams, management, regional HSE, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and documentation skills.
  • Able to work independently and support a developing/new office setup.
  • Willing to be based in Johor Bahru.

Preferred Background

  • HSE experience within project logistics, freight forwarding, industrial, data centre, energy, mining, shipbuilding, or construction-related environments.
  • Exposure to logistics operations, site mobilisation, subcontractor management, or project cargo environments would be an advantage.
  • Experience working with regional or global HSE teams is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ISO standards, management systems, emergency response, and business continuity planning would be an added advantage.
