Scope of Work

Job Description:

The ideal candidate must have a minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in Process Safety Engineering Design and demonstrate a strong understanding of the key areas listed below. This role is critical in ensuring that all safety aspects of process designs meet regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices, with a focus on risk reduction and safety management in high-hazard industries like oil and gas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform hazardous area classification to ensure the safe operation of equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres, complying with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Design, assess, and verify both active and passive fire protection systems to mitigate risks from fires, ensuring full compliance with safety standards.
  • Engineer fire and gas detection systems, ensuring optimal coverage and response times for hazardous releases.
  • Conduct flare radiation and gas dispersion analyses to evaluate the impact of flare systems, ensuring the protection of personnel and the environment.
  • Evaluate and design emergency escape, evacuation, and rescue systems, ensuring they are compliant with safety regulations.
  • Carry out qualitative and quantitative risk assessments (QRA) and fire & explosion risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Lead and participate in hazard identification (HAZID), hazard and operability (HAZOP) studies, Safety Integrity Level (SIL) determination using methodologies such as LOPA (Layer of Protection Analysis) and Risk Graph, and SIL verification processes.
  • Implement and maintain Process Safety Management (PSM) systems, focusing on the prevention of major accidents, management of safety-critical elements, and establishment of performance standards.
  • Identify, maintain, and manage Safety Critical Elements (SCEs), ensuring performance standards are in place and regularly reviewed and updated.
  • Perform hydraulic sizing calculations and surge/transient analysis to ensure safety and integrity in fluid-handling systems.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in process safety engineering within the oil and gas or energy sector.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Safety Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive knowledge of process safety design methodologies, risk analysis, and safety management.
  • Strong knowledge and application of international standards and regulations such as API, NFPA, and IEC.
  • Proficiency in leading safety studies, including HAZID, HAZOP, and SIL assessments.
  • Experience in fire protection systems, hazardous classification, and emergency response systems.
  • Hands-on experience with risk assessment tools and safety engineering software.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and team coordination skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring attention to detail and timely delivery of results.
