Job Purpose:
To maintain and continuously improve drilling performance in line with Malaysia’s drilling market standards and regulations. The Drilling Engineer will monitor drilling activities to maximize efficiency, define Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and propose and implement performance improvement initiatives to ensure optimal operational output and cost efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Manager, of Drilling Engineering to identify and capitalize on opportunities for improving drilling and decommissioning operations.
- Lead and manage cost-saving initiatives across assigned projects, overseeing each from conceptualization to execution.
- Ensure commitment to continuous improvement, data-driven decision-making, and teamwork within multidisciplinary teams during both the planning and execution phases.
- Provide technical recommendations related to Bit, Directional Drilling (DD), Measurement While Drilling (MWD), and Logging While Drilling (LWD) to enhance drilling efficiency.
- Collaborate with the digital transformation team to develop and maintain a comprehensive drilling database for more efficient data analysis and performance tracking.
- Support data-driven decision-making processes by capturing, analyzing, and utilizing operational data effectively.
- Develop plans to investigate, evaluate, and implement new technology or potential value-adding improvements in a structured and learning-oriented manner.
- Conduct field trials and assess the effectiveness of new technologies or methodologies in line with Malaysia’s regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical assistance to rig superintendents, drilling engineers, and drilling supervisors as required.
- Participate in ‘end of well reviews’ to capture lessons learned and contribute to performance improvement plans using the Technical Limit approach.
- Review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to ensure relevance and compliance with industry best practices and local Malaysian regulations.
- Ensure all performance improvement initiatives adhere to the Safety, Security, Health, and Environment (SSHE) Management System, Well Management System (WMS), and SOPs.
- Prepare HAZID (Hazard Identification) risk assessment sessions for new initiatives and incorporate risk mitigation plans into the Detailed Drilling Program.
- Organize procedural HAZOP (Hazard and Operability) sessions with key contractors prior to execution to ensure comprehensive risk management and adherence to SSHE standards.
Professional Knowledge & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
- Minimum of 10 years in drilling operations, including at least 5 years as a Drilling Operations Supervisor on offshore assets or rigs.
- Knowledge and experience in performance optimization, supplier management, materials procurement, service contracts, and SSHE (Safety, Security, Health, and Environment) management within the Malaysian oil and gas industry.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proficiency in data analysis and technical presentations.
- Hands-on experience with relevant drilling technologies, tools, and software.
